The route created by Bike Zone

The SBT (San Severino Bike Tour) is a permanent loop route, almost entirely within the territory of San Severino Marche, one of the largest in the Marche region. It can be tackled with a mountain bike, gravel bike, or an e-mountain bike equipped with a spare battery or charger, ensuring that the recharge point at Cantuccio di Elcito is open. The journey begins at the Settempeda district, in front of the hospital, where you'll have the opportunity to park for the necessary time and find bars, grocery stores, and restaurants to stock up on supplies for the trip or refresh upon your return. Once you set off, you'll head towards the hamlet of Granali, and after an ascent on a white road, you'll arrive at Pitino, from where you can admire the tower that overlooks it, which you can also visit with a short detour from the provided trail. Now you'll pedal towards the village of Monticole, from where you'll ascend along a picturesque single track that will lead you to a uphill white road, famous for being featured on a Nutella jar. After completing the ascent, you'll start the descent that will take you through Serralta, and then to the castle of Aliforni, from where you can admire, on one side, Lake Castreccioni, and on the other, the Apennines up to Gran Sasso. A beautiful downhill single track will take you to Corsciano, where a welcoming open bar will greet you. After a short stretch of asphalt, you'll turn left towards Ugliano, and then take a right onto a trail that leads you into the dry riverbed of the Musone River. At the end of it, turning right, you'll take the Francigena road until you reach the village of Chigiano. After passing it and turning left, a beautiful dirt road with a slight descent will take you to Castel San Pietro. After a few meters on asphalt around this splendid village, you'll turn left and take a steep uphill road that will lead you into a beautiful beech forest. Once you exit the forest, your effort will be rewarded with a splendid view of Elcito, also known as the Tibet of the Marche region. Elcito is a good place to refresh and potentially spend the night. You'll continue by taking the uphill road, at the end of which a monument will indicate that on your left is the entrance to the Canfaito Natural Reserve, characterized by centuries-old beech trees, a destination in the fall, during the foliage season, for an ever-increasing tourism. You can visit it with a short detour from the route. After a 2 km descent from the west side of Mount San Vicino, a left turn will lead you to the Sasso Forato, a striking rock formation that you'll cross with your bike. You'll then arrive near the Roti Abbey and, at the end of a fantastic trail in the woods and a short ascent, you'll cross a barrier before encountering a forest road where the ascent to the Gagliole meadows at the foot of Mount Lavacelli begins. At this point, you'll take a dirt road towards Serripola, where a slight descent followed by a brief climb will lead you to a gate towards a forest ranger's lodge on Mount Pormicio. Once you pass it and turn left, you'll find the entrance to an enjoyable single track called "MUCCA TRAIL," which will end on a white road leading first to the hamlet of Serripola and then to San Severino Marche, to tackle the last part of this splendid route. Starting from Ponte Sant'Antonio, you'll begin by ascending a white road, which will gradually take you to the summit of Mount d'Aria, right below the wind turbines, where the panorama is selfie-worthy! After passing the small Church of Madonna della Neve, the road climbs until it intersects with a forest ranger's lodge, where shortly after, on the left, a beautiful single track called "SHERWOOD" begins, winding through a pine forest. After a few hundred meters, you'll reach the striking Buca del Terremoto, probably formed following the collapse of a cavity due to an earthquake. By now, the road starts to descend towards the end of the route, and you'll begin to catch sight of the town of San Severino Marche, dominated by the Castle on the Mount, serving as a backdrop like a postcard for the last kilometers. Your journey will conclude in the splendid elliptical square, a symbol of our town and unanimously recognized as one of the most beautiful in Italy.
