A short route that encompasses some of the beauties of this region, including ancient castles, charming pine forests, mysterious caves, and fascinating places of worship. Starting from the square of the small medieval village of San Vittore di Genga, leaving the enchanting Abbey of San Vittore alle Chiuse behind, the route begins by crossing the picturesque Roman bridge over the Sentino River, which is the source of the Frasassi Caves. Continuing towards the small hamlet of Pierosara, an important medieval castle that dominates the two valleys below (the Gola della Rossa and the Gola di Frasassi), and owes its name to an ancient legend waiting to be discovered. Continuing the ascent on a comfortable road, first asphalted and then gravel, the route reaches the century-old pine forest of Monte Predicatore (also known as the Pineta degli Austriaci), which you will cross while descending to the valley floor, passing through hairpin bends and very scenic passages.
Arriving at the asphalted road, the route continues on secondary roads until you reach the Valle Scappuccia Cave. Leaving your bike at the entrance, after just 10 meters on foot, you will find yourself in front of a beautiful passage carved by the Scappuccia stream, making this landscape truly unique. Retracing your steps along the same road, you will continue descending on comfortable gravel roads towards the village of Genga, an ancient medieval castle that is worth stopping to explore, rich in charm and history. From here, the route continues downhill towards the valley to return to the starting point. Along the last stretch, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the uniqueness of this territory, passing right through the Frasassi Gorges, passing by two places that are definitely worth a visit: the beautiful Temple of Valadier (one of the most suggestive sanctuaries in the Marche, nestled in the rocky belly of the Gola di Frasassi) and the Frasassi Caves (a famous underground complex among the largest and most spectacular in the world).
